The BMX Collective

Coaching Genesis

The BMX Collective was founded from a place of love and passion. Only a few short years ago, Rico and Bennett began facilitating the Cambridge BMX Club coaching throughout 2019 and 2020. From here, they progressed to coach, and then manage the MCRA Grom Academy. In 2024, they have opened The BMX Collective. Committed to aiding young athletes through a proper development pathway, they focus on teaching skills, technique, and the tactical elements of a BMX race. With 30+ years of combined BMX experience, Rico and Bennett understand the importance of foundational elements to become a successful BMX racer. Subsequently, these elements have become the focus of what is taught.

Vision & Values

We are committed to building a safe, inclusive environment where riders can push their boundaries and learn fast. The BMX Collective aims to provide more than just BMX training, but also to teach lessons and skills which can be applied in everyday life away from the BMX track. Whether riders are aiming to make their first National’s final, or win the World Championships, we offer a variety of coaching resources to help achieve these goals.

Every training session is planned to be fun, engaging, and deliver high-quality content. Rest assured, we have a good track record of taking riders to the next level, regardless of their experience. We have a series unique drills to facilitate this.

In Action

Both Rico and Bennett have done BMX racing since age 5. Recently, they have had the opportunity to compete on the international stage at World Cups and the World Championships. Representing New Zealand  is a great honour. This drives them to deliver coaching to help the next generation get onto the world stage in BMX. These are awesome experiences that have taught us many lessons. Below, you can check out some of our favourite and recent images competing all over the world.
